Hyderabad: The BRS on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Telangana government after the death of RTC driver Shankar Goud in Narsampet, Warangal district, amid the ongoing RTC employees’ strike.
Senior BRS leaders alleged that the incident reflected growing distress among RTC workers over unresolved demands and delays in fulfilling promises made to transport employees.
The party claimed that Shankar Goud was deeply upset over issues faced by RTC staff and the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the strike. BRS leaders said the government should immediately open talks with employees and address their grievances.
BRS Seeks Compensation and Job
The party also criticised police action in Narsampet, alleging that leaders, workers and union representatives were detained while attempting to pay tribute to the deceased driver.
BRS demanded that all detained persons be released immediately and that RTC workers be allowed to offer respects at the depot.
The opposition party further sought ₹1 crore compensation for Shankar Goud’s family. It also demanded a government job for one eligible family member.
BRS leaders said the government must show sensitivity toward RTC workers and avoid escalating tensions during the strike period.
They also urged RTC employees not to lose hope and assured full support to their movement.
Meanwhile, the RTC strike continued across Telangana for the second consecutive day, affecting transport services in several districts. Passengers faced inconvenience as bus operations remained disrupted in many areas.
The incident in Warangal has intensified political reactions, with opposition parties increasing pressure on the government to resolve the labour dispute quickly.
The state government has not yet issued a detailed response on the latest demands raised after the incident.
