BRS Vows to Double the Imams’ Honorarium to 10,000
Hyderabad: Telangana’s ruling BRS party has pledged to double the monthly honorarium for imams and muezzins in the state, with a commitment to raise it to 10,000 rupees. The party has also vowed to continue fighting for 12% Muslim reservation.
BRS Executive President and Minister of I&T Industries, K. Tarak Rama Rao, made the announcement at a recent press conference in Telangana Bhavan.
He said that the party is committed to the minority community and that the increase in honorarium is a token of appreciation for their services.
Rao also highlighted the fact that Telangana is the first state in the country to implement such initiatives for imams and muezzins. He said that the Congress’s promise to increase the honorarium is a mere attempt to copy the BRS government’s policies.
On the issue of 12% Muslim reservation, Rao clarified that the BRS party had passed a resolution in April 2016 seeking the Center’s approval for the same. However, the BJP government has since postponed the decision. Rao assured that the BRS party would actively contribute to forming a secular government in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, with a commitment to pursuing the 12% Muslim reservation at the national level.
The BRS party’s announcements have been welcomed by the Muslim community in Telangana. Imams and muezzins have expressed their gratitude to the party for the increase in honorarium, and Muslim leaders have praised the party’s commitment to their community.
