Prior to the march towards Secretariat, the colleges will be holding a massive protest with around 30,000 staff, including teaching and non-teaching members, against the State government demanding release of their promised fee dues.

The protest will be held at LB Stadium here on November 8.

The Federation of Associations of Telangana Higher Institutions (FATHI) comprising private professional colleges reiterated that they will continue to shut their institutions until the government clears Rs. 5,000 crore out of Rs. 10,000 crore fee reimbursement arrears.

Initially, the State government assured to release Rs. 1,200 crore dues to colleges before Diwali festival. However, only Rs. 300 crore had been released that has angered colleges.

Further, so far, there is no word from the government on colleges’ suggestion for setting up a trust bank for remaining fee dues amount and preparing a roadmap for paying fee arrears.

With the government recently ordering a vigilance inquiry, the private professional colleges enhanced their demand and now want Rs. 5,000 crore, 50 per cent of the total Rs 10,000 crore fee reimbursement dues, be released immediately. (Maxim News)
