Hyderabad, May 3: Chennai airport incident triggered panic after a passenger jumped from an emergency exit of a flight arriving from Sharjah early Sunday. The incident occurred at Chennai International Airport during landing operations.
According to officials, the flight operated by Air Arabia had just landed and was taxiing towards the parking bay. Suddenly, a passenger from Pudukkottai opened the emergency exit door and jumped onto the runway.

The pilot immediately alerted ground control after noticing the breach. As a result, airport security teams rushed to the spot and detained the passenger without delay. Authorities then initiated standard safety protocols.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the passenger was unwell during the flight. He reportedly vomited twice and felt severe discomfort. Therefore, in a state of panic, he opened the exit after landing and jumped out.
Following the incident, officials temporarily shut down the main runway for safety checks. Consequently, flight operations were disrupted for about an hour. Several flights were diverted to an alternate runway during this period.
Airport authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident. However, they emphasized that such actions pose serious safety risks. A detailed inquiry is now underway to determine further circumstances.
