A major train accident occurred in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of at least ten people. The tragic incident took place when a Korba passenger train collided with a stationary goods train at Jayaram Nagar station. Authorities confirmed that several others sustained serious injuries in the crash, and the death toll could rise as many of the injured passengers are in critical condition.
According to preliminary information, the Korba passenger train, which was carrying dozens of travellers, rammed into the goods train, which had halted on the same track. The collision caused significant damage to several coaches of the passenger train, leaving passengers trapped inside. Panic spread at the scene as locals and railway employees rushed to help those caught in the wreckage.
Rescue and relief operations began immediately after the incident. Teams from local authorities and railway emergency services reached Jayaram Nagar station soon after receiving information about the collision. Officials reported that the deceased were recovered from the mangled coaches, while the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals in ambulances for treatment. The authorities are working to identify the victims and notify their families.
A senior railway official stated that rescue operations are still underway and that the priority remains saving lives and clearing the wreckage. Medical teams have been stationed at the site, and railway cranes are being used to separate the damaged coaches. Although the cause of the accident is yet to be officially confirmed, a detailed investigation has been initiated to determine how the collision occurred.
Meanwhile, authorities have made arrangements to support stranded passengers and facilitate alternate travel. The area around Jayaram Nagar station has been cordoned off as debris removal and search operations continue late into the evening.
