Chicken Price Drops To ₹100 Per Kg in Hyderabad: Will Biryani Prices Also Fall?

Hyderabad, Feb 12 (Maxim News): The price of chicken in Hyderabad has dropped sharply due to bird flu fears. Just recently, chicken was selling for ₹280-₹300 per kg, but now it has fallen to just ₹100 per kg. However, even at this low price, people are afraid to buy chicken, causing sales to drop by 50%.

Normally, Hyderabad sells around 6 lakh kg of chicken daily, but now, less than half of that is being sold. Many chicken shops are struggling, and some may even shut down if the situation continues.

Bird Flu Outbreak and Government Action

Bird flu is spreading rapidly in West Godavari, East Godavari, and Krishna districts of Andhra Pradesh (AP), where about 10 lakh chickens have died. To stop the virus from entering Telangana, the state government has set up 24 checkposts at the borders to block chickens and eggs from AP.

Animal husbandry officials have also inspected poultry farms in Telangana. Any chickens showing flu symptoms are being isolated, and farm owners have been given strict instructions. Officials have also reported chicken deaths in Kamareddy, Nizamabad, Nirmal, and Khammam districts. The situation is serious in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and AP as well.

The Telangana government has issued new guidelines, asking officials to inspect chicken farms, remove dead chickens, and declare affected areas as surveillance zones. There are also rumors and social media posts claiming that the government has warned people not to eat chicken, which has further reduced demand.

Is It Safe to Eat Chicken?

Veterinarians have reassured the public that properly cooked chicken and eggs are safe. They explain that the bird flu virus cannot survive high temperatures, and since chicken and eggs are cooked at 100 degrees Celsius, they pose no risk to humans. Experts say there is no need to panic.

Now, with chicken prices at an all-time low, people are wondering: Will restaurants and biryani shops reduce their prices too? We’ll have to wait and see. (Maxim News)
