Kolkata, June 12: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal has summoned Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee for questioning again on June 14 in connection with the alleged MLAs signature mismatch case.
The development comes a day after Banerjee was questioned for nearly six hours at the CID headquarters in South Kolkata and was released shortly before midnight on Thursday.
According to officials, the fresh summons was issued as investigators sought further clarification on issues related to the alleged mismatch in the signatures of several Trinamool Congress legislators on a resolution concerning appointments to opposition positions in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
Sources said investigators questioned Banerjee about the original resolution book and the minutes of the meeting linked to the case. Officials indicated that some queries remained unanswered during the interrogation.
The CID is reportedly seeking additional details regarding the whereabouts of the original resolution book and other records connected to the matter.
Banerjee, who is also the nephew of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, appeared before investigators after previously seeking legal relief.
Earlier on Thursday, the Calcutta High Court directed him to appear before the CID by 6 p.m. for questioning.
While granting protection from coercive action, including arrest, for 21 days, the court instructed Banerjee to cooperate fully with the investigation.
The court also permitted the CID to carry out raids and searches, if required, as part of its probe.
Following the questioning session, Banerjee reportedly visited Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kolkata. However, no details regarding their discussion were made public.
The CID investigation into the alleged signature mismatch case is continuing.
