- Congress civic polls momentum builds under Revanth Reddy leadership
- Congress civic polls outlook strong as Shabbir Ali cites governance
Hyderabad: Congress civic polls in Kamareddy and Nizamabad will see a clean sweep for the party, senior Congress leader and Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir said as campaigning ended for the municipal elections. He expressed confidence that the Congress would secure a clear majority in both towns due to a strong public wave in favour of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s leadership and performance.
Addressing a press conference in Kamareddy on the final day of campaigning on Monday, Shabbir Ali said the Congress gained overwhelming support because of its visible governance record within just two years of forming the government. He said, “People have seen the difference. From zero support to nearly two-thirds majority – the response on the ground has been extraordinary.”
Meanwhile, Shabbir Ali detailed his campaign efforts across Kamareddy. He said he personally campaigned in 45 out of 49 municipal wards over four days. He said he conducted intensive outreach meetings in 12 wards each day. “Wherever we went, people asked for a strong government. They rejected those who ruled for 10 years and delivered nothing, and those who disappeared after being elected,” he said.
Shabbir Ali also highlighted early initiatives taken by the Congress government. He referred to the ₹500 LPG cylinder scheme, free RTC bus travel for women, 200 units of free electricity, and the restoration of old ration cards. He said, “The Congress fulfilled what the BRS failed to deliver in ten years – in just two years.”

Later, he spoke about development works in Kamareddy. He said he pushed proposals worth ₹200 crore for the town. Many of these proposals have already been sanctioned. These include ₹8 crore for an indoor stadium at Indira Gandhi Stadium, underground electricity substations, and the expansion of the Godavari drinking water supply from 4 MLD to 10 MLD by March-end. “People remember that Godavari water came to Kamareddy because of Shabbir Ali,” he said.
Targeting BJP MLA Ramana Reddy, Shabbir Ali criticised his alleged inaction. He referred to statements made during floods and said, “When people died in floods, he said, ‘floods will keep coming, people will keep dying’ – what kind of leader says that? This is not how responsible people speak.” He also alleged delays in the underground substation project.
He further accused the BRS of misleading people for ten years and failing to provide jobs. He said, “They said Telangana was for jobs, but in 10 years, not a single member of our families got a government job.”
Based on internal assessments, Shabbir Ali predicted Congress would win 32 to 35 wards in Kamareddy. He said the party would form the municipality on its own. “The people have already made up their minds,” he said, while thanking voters for peaceful campaigning and strong participation.
