May 5: As per the data released by Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), 70 lakh salaried Indians have become jobless in April month alone because of states imposing lockdown and night curfew to stop the spread of coronavirus in the second wave. The CMIE said that unemployment rate in March and April stood at 6.5 and 8 per cent respectively.

In May month too, unemployment likely to go up compared to April as states are taking stringent measures to reduce positive cases, mentioned CMIE. However, the Centre has ruled out imposing nationwide lockdown as it will affect crores of people working in various sectors.
