Coronavirus: FPEJF Demands Special Package For Scribes

Hyderabad, April 2 (Maxim News): Free Press Editors & Journalists Federation (FPEJF) said Telangana Government provide special package for journalists who are working during lock down to report the Coronavirus situation in the State.

Federation president Tahir Romani, in a media statement said that despite total lock down and night curfew in Hyderabad, hundreds of journalists belonging to Print, Electronic and Web media have been working hard to cover the news related to Coronavirus and keep the people updated on the latest situation. He said media has been playing an important role in creating awareness among the people on the importance of lock down, social distancing, hygiene and other issues which are crucial at this juncture.

Tahir Romani said that the journalists have been facing lot of difficulties in reaching their offices and back home due to restrictions. But all of them, like Police, Health and other departments, have been working with dedication and commitment while risking their health and lives.

However, the FPEJF President said that almost all newspapers have registered a huge fall in their advertising revenues. Many newspapers were forced to reduce the number of copies of their editions as they were unable to reach the readers due to curfew. Small newspapers had to shut down their entire operations. Managements of many newspapers are not in a position to pay salaries to their employees and thousands of journalists in Telangana are facing huge financial crisis.

Despite these obstacles, the journalists have been displaying courage and performing their duties without any interruptions, he said.

In view of the above situation, the Free Press Editors & Journalists Federation requested the Chief Minister to declare a special package for the journalists of both Print and Electronic media. He said the package should be for all Accreditated, Non-Accreditated, Desk and technical staff working for publications and channels. By giving a special package, Telangana Government could set an example for the entire country and reiterate the claim that it is a Welfare Government, he said. (Maxim News)
