Cycle Walk, Skywalks Among Major Mobility Proposals for Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (HUMTA) has unveiled a series of proposals to improve urban mobility, including an elevated cycle walk along Hussainsagar, new skywalks, multimodal integration at 51 MMTS stations, and intelligent traffic management across the Hyderabad Metropolitan Area.

The proposals were discussed during the first meetings of four Working Groups constituted by the Telangana government to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and accelerate sustainable transport initiatives.

HUMTA plans integrated transport and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure

Among the key proposals is an elevated cycle walk connecting tourist destinations around Hussainsagar with major public transport hubs. HUMTA also proposed Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) at all 51 MMTS stations, improved first- and last-mile connectivity to Metro stations, feasibility studies for multi-level parking facilities, and the extension of the Outer Ring Road cycle track to adjoining growth corridors.

The working groups also reviewed policies related to Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA), Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), Non-Motorised Transport (NMT), parking management, street vending and the proposed Telangana State Ropeway project.

Officials further proposed the construction of skywalks at LB Nagar, Dilsukhnagar, Hitec City and near IKEA to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity.

Plans were also discussed to redevelop spaces beneath flyovers and introduce pilot street vending zones at Ameerpet Junction and Satyam Theatre Junction before expanding the initiative to all 12 zones of Hyderabad.

Working Group-IV reviewed the implementation of the Integrated Traffic Intelligence Platform (Trafficure) and assessed traffic simulation studies covering KBR Park, the GVK–Nanal Nagar corridor, and Secunderabad to improve traffic flow and congestion management.
