Kochi/Internet/Hyderabad, Sept 1 (Maxim News): Abubakar Musliyar, an Islamic cleric from Kerala, has made controversial remarks saying that women should be confined to their homes and that there will be no problems if they do not cross the threshold. He said that if women take to platforms and participate in public events, it will lead to great destruction. Therefore, he commented that there is a ‘purdah’ culture in Islam that prevents women from taking to public platforms, which prevents them from taking to platforms.
Abubakar, general secretary of the state-level central council of Sunni-Shafi’i Islamic intellectuals, ‘Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama’, spoke at an Islamic conference held in Kochi on Sunday. “The Quran has made it clear that women should live confined to their homes and should not be seen in public. Although there are some objections in this regard, as those who have studied religious scriptures, we have a responsibility to speak on this issue,” he commented.
Kerala Women and Child Welfare Minister Bindu Krishna and CPM leader PK Smriti strongly condemned these comments. “Those dark days are gone.. know that.” They commented. Abubakar’s comments were an insult to women in Kerala and the world. (Maxim News)
