DGP Shivadhar Reddy hails bravery of DCP Chaitanya, gunman

Hyderabad, Oct. 26: Director General of Police (DGP) Shivadhar Reddy has praised the courage and bravery of South East DCP Chaitanya and his gunman, Murthy, in the Chaderghat firing incident.

He commended the officers for their professional conduct in a dangerous situation. The DGP made these remarks after visiting Yashoda Hospital to inquire about the health of the two officers, who sustained minor injuries during the chase and scuffle.

Speaking to the media after the visit, the DGP provided further details on the incident.

He confirmed that on Saturday in Chaderghat, mobile snatchers attempted to attack the police with a knife.

DGP Reddy lauded DCP Chaitanya and gunman Murthy for their determination, stating that they chased the thieves for 750 meters before confronting them.

This pursuit, through the narrow bylanes near Victory Playground, demonstrated their commitment to apprehending the criminals despite the risks involved.

The DGP also provided information on the background of the injured suspect, identified as Omar Ansari.

He revealed that Ansari is a rowdy sheeter from the Kalapathar police station area and has 22 criminal cases registered against him.

This criminal history includes serious offenses such as attempted murder, robbery, and extortion, and he had been detained under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act twice before.

The DGP’s statement underscored the dangerous nature of the individual the officers were pursuing.

Providing a health update, the DGP said that both DCP Chaitanya and gunman Murthy are in stable condition and are expected to be discharged from the hospital tomorrow.

He also informed that the accused, Ansari, underwent an operation at Care Hospital in Banjara Hills and his condition is also stable.

He assured that a manhunt is underway to nab the second accused who managed to escape during the scuffle, with special police teams formed for this purpose.
