EC inert to violation of Mode Code of Conduct: Sravan

Hyderabad, October 24 (Maxim News): Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief Spokesperson Dr. Dasoju Sravan has alleged that the Election Commission of India was not taking any action over the violation of Model Code of Conduct by the State Government and police officials in favour of ruling TRS.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, Sravan welcomed the decision of ECI to withdraw the proposal for setting up of pink polling booths for women. He said the ECI has reacted positively to the representation made by the Congress party and shelved the plans to establish ‘pink’ polling booths as it did during Karnataka Assembly elections. However, he said that the election authorities were not taking a note of MCC violations by the officials.

Sravan alleged that the officials of State Government were using the ring tones highlighting various government schemes in their mobile phones. He said that the EC should direct the officials to change the ring tones that might influence the voters. Further, he strongly objected to the presence of pictures of caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrashkehar Rao and other ministers in government offices.

The Congress leader alleged that the caretaker CM, ministers and other TRS leaders were misusing the official vehicles in violation of MCC. Despite imposition of Model Code of Conduct, ministers have been moving in large convoys and misusing other official machinery. He said the police protocol should be withdrawn for caretaker ministers and former MLAs till elections are over.

Sravan also alleged that the police machinery, especially in rural areas, was being used by TRS to threaten Congress workers. He said Congress workers were being threatened of implication in false cases and forced to join the TRS. He said that the Election Commission should take note of such violations and complaints and take immediate action to ensure free and fair polling in Telangana.

The Congress leader has accused the TRS of creating a divide among people by inciting regional feelings in the name of Telangana and Andhra. (Maxim News)
