Nalgonda, July 25: Nalgonda One Town Police arrested an eight-member interstate gang, including a minor, for allegedly smuggling and selling ganja and hash oil sourced from Odisha. Police seized contraband and other material worth around ₹10 lakh during the operation.
The arrests were announced by Nalgonda DSP K. Sivaram Reddy on Saturday.
According to police, acting on specific information, a team led by One Town Inspector Amireddy Rajasekhar Reddy conducted a raid on Friday at around 11 a.m. at an open area opposite the Munugode Bypass Road in Nalgonda town.
Police alleged that a group of youths had gathered there to sell and consume ganja. During the operation, eight persons, including a juvenile, were taken into custody.
The seized items include:
- 5.6 kg of ganja
- 100 ml of hash (weed) oil
- Five motorcycles
- Four mobile phones
- One dummy gun
- One button knife
The arrested accused have been identified as:
- Kasparaju Nagaraju (20)
- Gantekampu Madhu (22)
- Chennapaka Sushank (23)
- Pendra Vasu (19)
- Syed Shoaib (21)
- Gandham Shivamani (19)
- Nakirekanti Dharani Kumar (19)
A juvenile was also apprehended in connection with the case.
Police said four other suspects — Manukar Niwas, Hari Niwas, Uday and Junnu — are absconding, and efforts are underway to trace them.
District SP Sharat Chandra Pawar appreciated the efforts of DSP K. Sivaram Reddy, Inspector Amireddy Rajasekhar Reddy, SIs Surabhi Sampath and Muthaiah, along with the police personnel involved in detecting the case.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the interstate network and identify others involved in the alleged smuggling operation.
