Delhi/Hyderabad, Aug 3 (Maxim News): It is known that a Delhi court has acquitted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan in a sexual harassment case. Wrestler and Olympic medalist Vinesh Phogat has reacted to this. She alleged that the system worked only to protect Brij Bhushan.
It may be recalled that the protests launched by female wrestlers against Brij Bhushan’s sexual harassment three years ago became a sensation in the country. As a result of their struggle, a case was registered against Brij Bhushan. After the trial, the Delhi court gave a clean chit to Brij Bhushan and issued a verdict. Vinesh Phogat responded to this. She alleged that the entire system worked to protect Brij Bhushan. She revealed that she will continue the legal fight on this. She said that the female wrestlers will not give up their fight and will appeal the Delhi court’s verdict. She revealed that she has instructed her legal team to appeal in a higher court in this matter.
We gathered the courage to register an FIR against a prominent leader of the ruling party and took to the streets to protest. She alleged that he had threatened the complainants with his influence and muscle power to withdraw the case. However, she said that we continued our legal fight without fear. But the Delhi court’s acquittal of him has left us deeply disappointed, she said. However, she said that we should not back down on this and will fight until justice is done. (Maxim News)
