Excise Constables Caught Gambling in Mancherial Station
- Photo of banned activity inside excise office goes viral online
- Inquiry ordered after officials found gambling during duty hours
Mancherial/Hyderabad, Nov 5 (Maxim News): The Prohibition and Excise Department in Mancherial district came under severe criticism after several officials were caught gambling inside the Chennur excise station on Tuesday night. A photograph showing the officers participating in the banned activity has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage among residents and questioning departmental discipline.
According to reports, a head constable and four constables were involved in the gambling session held inside the excise station office. The personnel allegedly locked the premises before engaging in the activity late at night. Locals condemned their behaviour, stating that a government office meant to curb illegal practices should not have been used for such purposes. Residents described the incident as a serious failure in maintaining the integrity of law enforcement.
In response, Mancherial Prohibition and Excise Department Superintendent Nandagopal confirmed that a departmental inquiry had been initiated. “An inquiry has been launched into the incident, and action will be taken against the personnel if found guilty,” he stated. The superintendent assured that a detailed investigation would determine the extent of involvement and ensure accountability within the department.
The incident has drawn sharp criticism from the public, who expressed concern over a growing culture of indiscipline among enforcement officials. Many questioned how such activities could occur within an excise station — a place specifically tasked with preventing gambling, liquor-related offences, and other prohibited acts. The viral image also led to widespread debate across digital platforms, with users demanding strict disciplinary action against those involved.
As the inquiry proceeds, the episode has put the Prohibition and Excise Department under intense public and administrative scrutiny. Officials said preventive measures will likely be reinforced across excise stations to avoid similar occurrences in the future.
