Delhi/Hyderabad, Aug 15 (Maxim News): The 80th Independence Day celebrations are being held with great pomp and show across the country. The Independence Day celebrations in the national capital Delhi are auspicious. Prime Minister Modi hoisted the national flag on the Red Fort. At the same time, the Vande Mataram song was sung.
This was the first time in the country’s history that the Vande Mataram song was sung in full on the Red Fort. Later, the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ was sung. At that time, two MI-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force showered flowers. One helicopter carried the national flag, and the other a medallion with ‘Vande Mataram’ written on it, and they were a sight to behold in the sky.
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the song ‘Vande Mataram’, special programs are being organized under the auspices of the Central Government for a year from November 7 last year. In this context, the Central Government has enacted a law giving equal status to Vande Mataram along with the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’. According to this law, insulting ‘Vande Mataram’ or causing disruption during its singing is considered a legal offence. The song ‘Vande Mataram’ was first sung by Rabindranath Tagore at the Congress session held in Calcutta in 1896. (Maxim News)
