Hyderabad, July 29: A 44 year old fruit seller allegedly died by suicide in Hyderabad’s Amberpet after recording a selfie video in which he accused his wife and in laws of mental harassment and financial cheating. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
The deceased, identified as Sultan, was a resident of Umar Nagar in the Amberpet division. He is survived by his wife, Asma Farin, and their three children. His in laws reportedly reside in Nizamabad.
In the selfie video, Sultan claimed that he regularly deposited money earned from his fruit business into a post office account in his daughter’s name and handed over ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 every month to his wife for savings.
He alleged that when he later verified the account, it contained only ₹6,000. Sultan also claimed that he had given ₹3 lakh to his in laws to purchase a plot in Nizamabad, but the land was never bought.
According to the video, Sultan said he had earned between ₹20 lakh and ₹25 lakh through his business but was told by his wife that no money remained. He also levelled allegations of an illicit relationship and claimed that he faced continuous mental harassment from his wife and her parents.
Sultan stated in the video that he wanted his savings to be secured for the future of his children and said the alleged harassment had driven him to take the extreme step.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the allegations made in the video. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
