Funds, Powers To MPPs, ZPTCs Soon: Errabelli

Hyderabad, June 12 (Maxim News): Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao today said the local body chairpersons, chairmen and vice-chairmen will get powers for development works.

Inaugurating DPRC Bhavan at Karimnagar along with Health Minister Eatala Rajender and ZP Chairperson T Uma and others, Errabelli addressed a general body meeting. Dayakar Rao, who came from Delhi after attending a national-level meeting on use of water resources and others, has said the State government was committed to develop the villages. Village Panchayats and MPPs may get cheque power, he said, adding that it was not a problem to extend cheque power to sarpanches, the minister said.

Stataing that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was keen on speedy development of villages and districts, he said the government will give powers and funds to the MPPs and ZPTCs. He also said the State government will come up with new laws for the purpose as the local bodies faced financial problems due to existence of Central Acts. KCR will bring in a new legislation paving way for providing funds and powers to the local bodies, he informed. The government requested the Centre to provide 50 per cent of funding for the Mission Bhagiratha program. The Telangana government succeeded in implementing the water scheme and distributing safe and purified waters to rural pockets, he added.

A whopping Rs 45,000 crore was being spent for the water scheme being appreciated by several States and the Centre, Dayakar Rao claimed. The minister informed the meeting that the government is for providing necessary powers and funds to zilla parishats and mandal parishats and will take action if they do not follow suit with regard to works of development. Dayakar Rao said Rs 2,000 crore was being spent every year for maintenance of the water scheme and the State government sought central help in this regard. Sarpanches will get funds for road development in villages and will soon release the IKP funds. The minister also said the government schools will be strengthened with all facilities. (Maxim News)
