A horrific case of sexual assault surfaced in Konijerla mandal, Khammam district, where a 13-year-old girl studying in class eight was gang raped by three youths from her own village. The incident, reported by the police, has shocked local residents and raised serious concerns about the safety of minors in the area.
According to police sources, the assault took place on Friday at around 8:30 pm when the girl was returning home from church. The three accused – two minors aged 16 studying in intermediate, and a major, Arvind, aged 18 and a degree student – approached her on the pretext of informing her that her younger brother had lost his sight. Misled by their statement, the girl followed them into a house where all three raped her. She later made her way home in distress.
That night, the girl’s parents were away in Hyderabad for work, and her grandparents, who would normally be present, were also out at a prayer hall. Seeing that the house was empty, the accused returned at 11 pm. They opened the gate and attempted to drag the girl outside again to rape her nearby. The girl screamed, raising the alarm, which led the boys to flee the scene.
The full details of the ordeal only came to light the next day when the girl finally informed her mother. Acting on the complaint, SI Suraj registered cases under the POCSO Act along with charges of gang rape against the three accused. Police have taken Arvind into custody while the two minors remain absconding.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting calls for swift justice and safer protective measures for children. Authorities urge parents and guardians to maintain vigilance and encourage children to report any attempt at coercion or abuse without hesitation. Because the main accused is in custody, local police are now conducting searches for the two absconding minors involved in the crime.
