The subsidy will cover 40 percent of the cost, capped at Rs 4 lakh per unit. However, the high price of drones has limited ownership so far. Each unit costs between Rs 9.5 lakh and Rs 11.5 lakh, depending on specifications.

Currently, many farmers hire drones instead of buying them. They depend on cooperative societies, self help groups, and private operators. The hiring cost stands at about Rs 400 per hour. During this time, drones can cover four to five acres.

Government to Provide Drones to Farmers for Efficient Agriculture

Moreover, the government to provide drones to farmers aims to address labour shortages. As agricultural labour becomes scarce, farmers increasingly turn to technology. Drones help spray fertilisers and pesticides quickly and evenly.

In addition, officials said drone use reduces input costs. Smaller quantities of fertilisers and pesticides are sufficient for aerial spraying. Therefore, farmers can save both time and money while increasing productivity.

Priority will be given to farmer producer organisations, primary agricultural cooperative societies, and self help groups. This approach ensures wider access to the technology.
