Minister KTR held a review meeting on the Handloom and Textile department in Hyderabad today.
Minister KTR stated that the decision taken by the Government to provide ‘Nethanna Ku Cheyutha’ (Thrift scheme) funds to the weavers during the COVID crisis has given much-needed relief to the weavers.
Minister announced that an amount of Rs 96.43 Crore to handloom weavers and Rs 13 Crore to power loom weavers, (total of Rs 110 Crore) was provided to the weavers by the government. This has benefited about 25 thousand weavers across the State, said Minister KTR.
Giving relaxation to the mandatory lock-in period of three years, the Govt has provided weavers access to these thrift funds.
Minister stated that weavers have been appreciating this move and are appealing to the government to once again implement this scheme. Minister anounced that a decision will be taken soon on this.
Minister KTR also held a review meeting on Bathukamma Sarees. He instructed the officials to complete the production of Bathukamma Sarees soon.
Minister instructed the officials to complete the distribution of the sarees by the second week of October.
Minister instructed the Handloom and Textile department officials to issue guidelines to be followed by the district collectors during the distribution of Bathukamma Sarees.
Minister stated that awareness has been created amongst the citizens on the use of handloom clothes. He asked the officials to focus on the branding of TSCO handloom clothes. He also asked the officials to come up with an action plan to set up showrooms in different places of Hyderabad city.
Later, Minister KTR visited the Golconda Handicrafts Showroom. He inspected the handicraft works and interacted with the artisans.
Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, and Handlooms & Textiles Director Shailaja Ramaiyer were present in the meeting.
