H-FAST Raids Six Food Units, Six Held For Food Safety Violations

Hyderabad, July 19: The Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team (H–FAST) conducted a special enforcement drive across Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts, inspecting six food establishments and apprehending six persons for alleged violations of food safety regulations.

The raids were carried out on July 17 by the Commissioner’s Task Force in coordination with the Food Safety Officers of GHMC. The operation aimed to curb food adulteration, enforce food safety standards and protect public health.

H-FAST Seizes Unsafe Food Articles During Raids

The H FAST teams inspected an edible oil and basmati rice repacking unit, an ice cream manufacturing unit, two murukulu manufacturing units, a bakery and a food retail store.

The establishments inspected were KOP Apro Tech Limited at Bahadurpura, Snazzy Ice Cream at Kishan Bagh, Veerabhadra Enterprises and Twin Cities Enterprises at Mylargadda, SS Bakery at Malkajguda and M M Kirana and Dry Fruits Stores at Begum Bazar.

Officials detected several violations, including unhygienic food preparation, use of reused cooking oil and artificial food colours, sale of expired and misbranded food products, improper food labelling and storage, and failure to display valid FSSAI licences.

The teams also found poor sanitation, pest and pigeon infestation, lack of food testing and health records, and food handlers working without protective gear such as gloves and hairnets.

During the operation, reused cooking oil, artificial food colours and other unsafe food articles were seized. Food samples were collected for laboratory analysis, while the remaining cases were handed over to the concerned Food Safety Officers for action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Authorities also issued notices directing the food business operators to rectify the violations and comply with prescribed food safety standards.

The special drive was led by Inspectors of Police N. Ranjith Kumar Goud and M. Anjaiah of H FAST along with Sub Inspectors and Food Safety Officers of GHMC.

The Hyderabad City Police advised consumers to buy food only from licensed establishments, verify FSSAI licences, manufacturing and expiry dates, and report food adulteration or unhygienic food practices to the H FAST toll free helpline for prompt action.
