- Hanmakonda Sub Registrar Office corruption under ACB probe
Hyderabad, April 3: The Anti Corruption Bureau uncovered a major corruption case during raids at the Sub Registrar Office in Hanmakonda and the residences of its officials. The operation revealed large digital transactions and assets suspected to be disproportionate.
The ACB first carried out a surprise check at the Sub Registrar Office on April 2. This initial action led to further investigation. Based on evidence found, officials quickly extended the raids to the homes of those involved. Therefore, the entire process was treated as one continuous operation.
During the inspection, officials checked mobile phones of document writers. They found WhatsApp chats that showed financial dealings with officials. These chats pointed to PhonePe transactions worth about ₹42,03,125 over the past year. Meanwhile, the ACB suspects an organised system of illegal payments between document writers and office staff.
ACB teams also found serious irregularities inside the office. They identified 20 unauthorized agents and document writers working there. Officials seized ₹47,450 in unaccounted cash and 70 unregistered documents. These findings indicate clear violations in the registration process. Also, 204 registered documents were found undelivered and still with the Sub Registrar Officers.
Later, the raids moved to the residences of officials. At the house of SRO II Davuluri Anand, officials seized net cash of ₹24,61,540. They also recovered 819.500 grams of gold ornaments and 2.600 kilograms of silver ornaments. In addition, fixed deposits worth ₹30,10,000 in Kapil Chits were found. These assets are suspected to be disproportionate and are under investigation.
The ACB stated that more irregularities came to light during the operation. A detailed report is now being prepared. It will be submitted to the government for further action. Meanwhile, the bureau urged citizens to report corruption through its toll free number and WhatsApp contact. Officials also assured that the identity of complainants will remain confidential.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to examine evidence and trace the full extent of the alleged corruption network.
