Heavy rains and thunderstorms are likely see details

Heavy Rains: The depression over southwest Bay of Bengal crossed north Tamil Nadu and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts, close to Chennai, on Thursday evening with a maximum sustained wind speed of 45–55 km/hr, gusting to 65 km/hr.

5-Day Nationwide Forecast
The depression that has been moving over the Bay of Bengal towards the Southern Peninsula has crossed the coastline near the border of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.

It will soon be downgraded to a well-marked low-pressure area. While it is weakening as a system, however, the extent of its winds has rather expanded to include East Indian states such as Odisha, where occasional heavy falls and thunderstorms are expected on Friday.

Under its influence, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy showers at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema south interior Karnataka and Kerala during the next 24 hours.

Heavy rains:

A low-pressure area in the Arabian Sea, west of Lakshadweep, is becoming a blurry system and will gradually be absorbed into the above-mentioned system. Occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely over Lakshadweep and Tamil Nadu until Saturday.

The next major concern will be a low-pressure system that is expected to become notable over the Andaman Sea around Sunday. It will bring widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls over the Andaman Islands this weekend, while also causing squally weather and rough sea conditions.

In case this new system continues to develop in the Bay of Bengal moving westward, it could bring heavy rains to the east coast of the Southern Peninsula around the middle of the next week.

No Western Disturbance is forecast for the next 5 days. Dry conditions are likely across northwestern parts of the country.

As for the mercury levels, the maximum temperatures will be cooler than normal across Odisha and the adjoining areas until Sunday.

Overnight minimums will be 2 to 8C warmer than normal across the southeastern half of the country for the next five days.

Friday

Heavy rains and thunderstorms are likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh and coastal Odisha. Widespread rain with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms may lash Kerala and Lakshadweep.


Fairly widespread rains and thunderstorms have been forecast over inland Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, inland Odisha, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Heavy rains and thunderstorms:

Scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Chhattisgarh.

Isolated rains and thunderstorms have been predicted over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Jharkhand, and Gangetic-West Bengal.


Saturday

Widespread rains with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms are likely over Kerala and Lakshadweep.
Fairly widespread rains and thunderstorms are in forecast over Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Isolated rains and thunderstorms are on the cards over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Goa. Snow may mix in Arunachal Pradesh.
