Heavy Rains: Low Pressure to Bring Downpour in Telangana, AP
Heavy Rains Alert | Hyderabad, September 1: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
A new low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal tomorrow. This system is expected to trigger widespread rains in several parts of both states.
Heavy Rains Alert in Telangana for Next 3 Days
Weather in Telangana, which remained dry in the morning, is turning cloudy by afternoon. The IMD predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in many districts. Thunderstorms with lightning are also likely.
The warning covers Jagtial, Sircilla, Karimnagar, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Bhupalpally, Adilabad, Kamareddy, Medak, Nirmal, Komurambheem Asifabad, Nizamabad, Sangareddy, and Vikarabad. Other districts may receive light to moderate rain.
Authorities have urged residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to stay alert. Sudden downpours could lead to waterlogging and flash floods. Commuters are advised to avoid venturing out during heavy showers.
Andhra Pradesh to See More Rains
The situation is similar in Andhra Pradesh. A surface circulation persists over the northwest Bay of Bengal near West Bengal and Odisha coasts. This is likely to cause moderate to heavy rains for the next three days in Andhra Pradesh.
Districts like Rayalaseema, South Coastal Andhra, Palnadu, Prakasam, Kurnool, Anantapur, Annamaya, and Nandyal are on alert. There is also a chance of thundershowers with gusty winds.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till Wednesday. People have also been warned not to take shelter under trees or weak structures during storms.
Punjab Battles Worst Floods in Four Decades
Meanwhile, Punjab is reeling under severe floods, the worst since 1988. More than 1,000 villages are submerged, and crops on three lakh acres have been damaged. The Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers are overflowing, forcing mass evacuations.
Three people have lost their lives, and thousands have been moved to safer areas. Authorities are working round the clock to rescue stranded residents.
