Hyderabad, April 22: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has launched a water volunteer program to curb misuse and promote responsible consumption across the city.
The initiative allows citizens to register as volunteers through the official website. Applicants must provide basic details, including ID proof and a photograph.
HMWSSB To Recruit Volunteers To Report Water Wastage
The board will review all applications before selecting eligible volunteers. Once approved, volunteers will gain access to a dedicated mobile application.
Using the app, volunteers can report water wastage with photo evidence. Moreover, complaints will be verified through OTP authentication.
The system will link complaints to the Consumer Account Number. As a result, authorities can impose penalties and notify users.
Additionally, the board will offer incentives to active volunteers. This aims to encourage consistent participation in monitoring misuse.
Officials said the program targets illegal water use practices. These include unauthorised motors, vehicle washing, and excessive use for construction.
Through this step, the board seeks to strengthen enforcement and reduce wastage during peak summer demand.
