Hyderabad Accreditation Committee: Journalists Seek Review

Hyderabad Accreditation Committee | Hyderabad, April 23 (Maxim News): Representatives of journalist bodies on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Information and Public Relations Commissioner C.H. Priyanka, seeking a review of the recently formed Hyderabad District Media Accreditation Committee.

The delegation raised objections over the committee’s constitution and alleged lack of fair representation for major newspapers and leading media organisations.

They said several journalist unions / associations had recommended names for inclusion. However, those suggestions were reportedly not considered during the selection process.

The representatives also expressed concern over the exclusion of experienced senior journalists from the panel.

The delegation stated that appointing new members while overlooking senior journalists was not an appropriate approach.

They further alleged that names suggested by photo, Urdu, video, small and medium, and electronic media unions / association were ignored.

Instead, they claimed only favourable individuals were included in the committee. Therefore, they demanded corrective steps from the department.

The journalists said the issue had created concern within media circles and affected confidence in the accreditation process.

The delegation also pointed to a lack of transparency in the committee formation. They said officials had not provided enough clarity on the selection criteria.

As a result, they urged the Commissioner to immediately reorganise the committee and ensure balanced representation for all major media segments.

They also requested proper inclusion of senior and experienced journalists in the revised panel.

Those who met the Commissioner included TUWJ state president K. Virahat Ali, former Press Council of India member M.A. Majeed, Hyderabad Union of Journalists president Shig Shankar, Urdu Journalist’s Federation general secretary Syed Ghouse Mohiuddin, Small and Medium News Papers Union president Yusuf Babu, Photo Journalists Union president K.N. Hari, and Video Journalists Union leader Janardhan Reddy.

Officials are yet to issue a formal response on the representation submitted by the delegation.
