Hyderabad: The U.S.-India TRUST initiative moved a step forward as a major conference in Hyderabad brought together officials, academics, and industry leaders to deepen cooperation in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. The event focused on delivering outcomes that protect U.S. national security while expanding economic opportunity through trusted partnerships between the two countries.

The conference, titled “Leveraging U.S.–India TRUST: Industry Academia Partnerships in AI & Cybersecurity,” was organised by the U.S. Consulate General Hyderabad and the World Trade Center, Shamshabad and Visakhapatnam. It was held at the World Trade Center in the Financial District. The event marked a key milestone in implementing the TRUST initiative launched by President Trump and Prime Minister Modi in February 2025. The initiative aims to catalyse collaboration across government, academia, and the private sector in areas such as AI, semiconductors, quantum computing, biotechnology, energy, and space.

The Hyderabad conference focused on translating high level commitments into practical partnerships. The TRUST initiative seeks to build resilient supply chains, accelerate AI infrastructure development, and strengthen innovation ecosystems in both nations. It also aims to ensure that strategic technology collaboration remains secure, results driven, and aligned with U.S. interests.

U.S. Consul General Laura Williams highlighted the broader significance of the effort. She said, “The TRUST initiative is a clear example of how the United States is advancing our national security and economic interests through strategic, results-driven partnerships.

By working with India, we are building secure technology ecosystems that protect American innovation, strengthen our supply chains, and create new opportunities for U.S. leadership in critical and emerging technologies. In September 2025, Secretary Rubio affirmed the strength of the U.S.-India relationship, highlighting the implementation of the U.S.-India COMPACT, which will enhance our collaboration on trade, defense, energy, and more. Today’s conference is a step forward in that direction.”

AI and cybersecurity partnerships take center stage

Y Varaprasad Reddy, Chairman of the World Trade Center, Shamshabad and Visakhapatnam, said the initiative reflects a defining moment in academic and industry collaboration. He stated, “This collaborative initiative represents a defining moment for strengthening U.S.-India academic and industry partnerships. The conference was designed to foster innovation, build confidence, and enable knowledge exchange in the rapidly evolving domains of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, areas where both our nations have complementary strengths and shared interests.”

Dr. James Lerums of Purdue University delivered the keynote address and stressed the role of universities in research, skills development, and technology partnerships. He underlined the importance of building a strong talent pipeline to support AI and cybersecurity capabilities.

The conference featured thematic sessions covering policy implementation, AI driven cybersecurity solutions, academic partnerships, and long term cooperation. Discussions also highlighted India’s progress as an AI innovation hub and the opportunities this creates for bilateral collaboration. The event concluded with a roadmap that emphasised research partnerships, talent development, and common standards for the safe use of AI and digital technologies.
