Hyderabad, Sept. 24 (Maxim News): Hyderabad Metro Rail will extend its services during the Ganesh immersion procession on September 25. The move aims to help devotees and commuters travel safely amid the expected rush.
According to reports, the last Metro trains will depart from terminal stations at 1 am on September 26. Therefore, passengers can use the Metro for late night travel during the immersion festivities.
The Ganesh immersion procession will take place across Hyderabad on September 25. Authorities expect heavy crowds along major procession routes and around Hussain Sagar.
Extra security and Metro arrangements
Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities have made additional arrangements at key stations. Khairatabad and Lakdi Ka Pul stations will have additional police personnel and private security staff.
Moreover, Metro officials will monitor passenger demand during the festivities. Additional ticket counters may operate at stations where crowds increase.
Officials may also deploy additional Metro trains based on passenger demand. These measures aim to reduce waiting times and manage the large number of passengers expected during the immersion.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad authorities have imposed extensive traffic restrictions for the procession. Vehicles other than those carrying idols will face restrictions on major procession routes from September 25 morning until September 26 morning.
The Metro extension is expected to provide an alternative to road transport during the restrictions. It could also help commuters avoid congestion around Khairatabad, Tank Bund and other major routes.
South Central Railway has also announced special MMTS services during the immersion period. The additional trains will operate during the intervening nights of September 25 and 26, and September 26 and 27.
The special MMTS services will operate between 11 pm and 5 am. They will connect important routes involving Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Lingampalli and Falaknuma.
Hyderabad officials have been preparing for the immersion for several weeks. The GHMC and police are working on traffic, sanitation, emergency response and crowd management arrangements.
Devotees using public transport have been advised to plan their journeys in advance. They should also follow police instructions and official transport advisories during the procession.
Note: September 25, 2026 falls on a Friday, not Saturday. The immersion is scheduled for September 25, with Metro services extending into the early hours of September 26. (Maxim News)
