Hyderabad, May 9: The Telangana government has started work on an integrated public transport system linking MMTS trains, Metro Rail and TGSRTC bus services in Hyderabad. Officials are preparing to introduce a common ticketing system to improve connectivity and reduce travel difficulties for commuters.
The proposed system aims to strengthen first mile and last mile connectivity while increasing public transport usage across the city. Officials said the government was also exploring integration with private transport platforms such as Ola, Uber and Rapido.
The government plans to appoint a private consultancy firm for developing software and integrating transport services. Tenders for the consultancy are expected to be floated soon.
Common ticketing system to improve Hyderabad transport
Officials said a dedicated mobile application would provide real time information for Metro Rail, MMTS trains, buses and private feeder services. Passengers will also be able to book common tickets through the app.
The government has already held discussions with officials from different transport departments to streamline data integration and service coordination.
Under the new plan, private feeder services such as shared vans and shuttle services may be introduced near MMTS stations to improve local connectivity. These services will operate in designated zones and will be monitored through GPS systems.
Authorities have also directed Telangana State Road Transport Corporation and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to map bus stops and routes near MMTS stations. A station wise connectivity plan is also being prepared.
Officials said the Hyderabad Metro Rail project agreement had originally promised strong last mile connectivity under the PPP model. However, the required integration between Metro Rail, MMTS and RTC buses could not be fully developed.
The government now plans to prioritise seamless connectivity as part of the common ticketing initiative. Officials are aiming to launch the system within the next two months.
