Hyderabad, May 4: Hyderabad ulema urge Muslim community to join Census drive and ensure active participation in the ongoing national enumeration process. Religious leaders stressed that civic responsibility is vital for proper representation.
At a meeting held at Masjid Darul Irfan, prominent scholars called for greater awareness among community members. Mohammad Shah Jamalur Rehman emphasized that religious leaders must protect both faith and citizenship rights.
He urged imams and khateebs to use mosque platforms to spread awareness about Census participation. Moreover, he warned that ignoring the process may lead to serious consequences in the future.
During the meeting, several speakers expressed concern over low enthusiasm within the community. They noted that the deadline for self enumeration is approaching fast. Therefore, they called for immediate action to improve participation.
Obaidur Rahman Athar highlighted that under participation may lead to underrepresentation. As a result, access to welfare schemes and government benefits could be affected.
According to available data, Muslims formed 14.2 percent of India’s population in the 2011 Census. However, leaders believe the actual figure could be higher if participation improves this time.
Additionally, speakers suggested practical steps to boost awareness. They advised using mosque networks to inform people about the process. They also encouraged educated youth to assist families with digital self enumeration.
After the self enumeration deadline, government officials will begin door to door data collection. Therefore, leaders urged the community not to delay participation.
Officials and scholars reiterated that accurate Census data plays a key role in policy making and resource allocation. They called for collective effort to ensure every eligible person is counted.
