Hyderabad Woman Trapped in Muscat Job Scam; Family Appeals to MEA for Rescue

Hyderabad, July 22 (Maxim News): A 37-year-old woman from Hyderabad, Sajida Begum, has reportedly been trapped in Muscat, Oman, after falling victim to a job scam, prompting her family to seek urgent intervention from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

According to the family, Sajida Begum, a resident of Kalapathar, was promised a housemaid job in Oman by a local travel agent. In June this year, she travelled to Muscat on a tourist visa, unaware of the fraudulent nature of the offer. Upon arrival, she was allegedly forced to work in multiple homes for long hours under inhuman conditions.

The family later discovered that Sajida was sent on a single-entry tourist visa instead of a valid work permit, raising serious concerns over the illegal recruitment practices.

In a letter addressed to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, Sajida’s daughter, Habeeba Begum, revealed that her mother was being physically abused, denied adequate food and shelter, and is now being held against her will. She stated that the employer is demanding Rs. 2 lakh, allegedly as recruitment expenses, before allowing Sajida to return to India.

Habeeba also alleged that her mother’s mobile phone was confiscated and she is currently being confined in a travel office in Muscat. She appealed to the MEA to take swift action to repatriate Sajida safely and launch an investigation into the illegal agent who orchestrated the scam.
