IAS news case: Harish Rao condemns journalist arrests
IAS news case | Hyderabad, Jan. 14: Former minister T Harish Rao on Monday criticised the Telangana government over the reported arrest of journalists linked to news reports on a woman IAS officer.
He described the action as vindictive and shameful, especially during a festival period.
Responding on X, Harish Rao referred to social media reports claiming that police arrested three reporters from a leading Telugu news channel late at night.
Rao questioned the need for midnight arrests and alleged that journalists were being targeted for political reasons.
Rao asked whether journalists were being treated like extremists and accused the government of entering homes to carry out arrests.
Harish Rao said he strongly condemned what he called a series of arrests of journalists in the state.

Harish Rao said the Congress government was deliberately attacking the self respect of Telangana journalists.
Rao termed the arrests a direct assault on democracy and press freedom. He also questioned the use of SITs against media and digital platforms, asking whom the government was trying to protect and whom it was targeting.
Rao accused the government of damaging democratic values for political gain. Harish Rao further questioned Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on his claims of restoring democracy and people centric governance.
Harish Rao demanded the immediate release of the arrested journalists.
