United Nations, June 6: India strongly rejected Pakistan’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir at the United Nations General Assembly and asserted that the region remains an integral part of the country. The Indian delegation said Pakistan was attempting to spread misinformation by raising the issue on an international platform.
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvataneni Harish, responded during a UN discussion after Pakistan referred to Jammu and Kashmir as an internationally recognized disputed territory.
India Rebukes Pakistan on Jammu and Kashmir
Harish said Jammu and Kashmir was, is, and will remain an integral part of India. He added that all matters related to the region are completely internal affairs of India. He also accused Pakistan of misusing international forums for political purposes and said its statements could not alter the facts.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs strongly objected to Pakistan’s decision to hold general elections in the Gilgit Baltistan region on June 7. The ministry stated that the area remains part of Indian territory under Pakistan’s illegal occupation.
India maintains that Gilgit Baltistan is part of the Union Territory of Ladakh. Therefore, New Delhi reiterated its opposition to any electoral exercise conducted by Pakistan in the region.
