Delhi: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said India and the United States are strategically aligned on critical global issues including critical minerals, supply chains, terrorism and emerging technologies.
Speaking at a joint press briefing with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Rubio described India as one of the most important strategic partners of the United States in the world.
He said the partnership between the two democracies extends beyond regional cooperation and is based on long term strategic interests.
Rubio stated that both India and the US understand the importance of accountability and public scrutiny because leaders in democracies are directly answerable to voters.
“We are the two largest democracies in the world. Every decision we make ultimately has to be justified before our people,” Rubio said.
India And US Share Strategic Interests
The US Secretary of State said India and the US are closely working on several global strategic challenges.
He stressed that access to critical minerals and reliable supply chains has become one of the most important issues of the 21st century.
Rubio warned against over dependence on a single source for essential materials and technologies.
“The over concentration of reliance on a single source for anything vital to economies is one of the great challenges of the 21st century,” he said.
He added that India and the US are strategically aligned in reducing such vulnerabilities and strengthening supply chain resilience.
Rubio also referred to developments in the Indo Pacific region and the Strait of Hormuz, saying both countries share common concerns on global security and economic stability.
Strong Counter Terrorism Cooperation
Highlighting counter terrorism cooperation, Rubio said both countries have suffered due to global terrorist networks.
He said the shared experience had strengthened strategic cooperation between India and the United States in combating terrorism.
“There is a strong counter terrorism alignment between our countries,” he noted.
Rubio further said emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and innovation offer major opportunities but also come with risks.
He stated that India and the US are working together to maximise technological benefits while managing challenges linked to security and misuse.
Rubio Calls India Key Strategic Partner
Describing his India visit as phenomenal, Rubio said the relationship between the two countries is broader than ordinary diplomatic cooperation.
He said strategic partnerships are built when two nations work together to solve long term challenges based on aligned interests and shared values.
Rubio emphasised that the India US partnership is growing stronger across sectors including technology, security, innovation and global economic cooperation.
He also praised the depth and scope of cooperation between the two democracies and said the partnership would continue to expand in the coming years.
