Indian Air Force Direct Contact Programme At Osmania University

Hyderabad, August 5: The Department of Political Science at Osmania University, in collaboration with the Indian Air Force (IAF), organized a Direct Contact Programme on Wednesday at the University College of Arts & Social Sciences.

The initiative aimed to create awareness about the Indian Air Force, national security, and career opportunities in the defence services among students.

The programme was presided over by Prof. C. Kaseem, Principal of the University College of Arts & Social Sciences.

Addressing the gathering, Osmania University Registrar Prof. G. Naresh Reddy said the interaction provided students with an opportunity to understand the vital role played by the Indian Air Force in protecting the nation’s borders and ensuring national security.

He said such engagements have become increasingly relevant amid evolving global security challenges and rapid technological advancements in the defence sector. He encouraged students to set ambitious goals and pursue them with dedication and discipline.

In his presidential address, Prof. C.Kaseem said the programme offered valuable insights into career opportunities in the Indian Air Force.

He highlighted Osmania University’s long-standing contribution to nation-building and said direct interaction with defence personnel motivates students while broadening their understanding of the armed forces and recruitment opportunities.

She said such programmes help students gain a better understanding of national security, defence careers, and the role of the Indian Air Force in safeguarding the country. She also thanked the IAF for partnering with the university.

Vice Principal Dr. P. Swathi urged students to explore career options beyond conventional professions and encouraged Arts and Social Sciences students to consider joining the defence services.

Wing Commander Seemab Akhtar explained the Indian Air Force’s responsibilities in border security, national defence, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief operations. Through an audio-visual presentation, he introduced students to various career opportunities in the Flying Branch, Ground Duty (Technical), Ground Duty (Non-Technical), and the Agniveer Vayu Scheme.

He also explained the eligibility criteria, recruitment process, training procedures, and career progression within the Air Force. Motivating the students, he said, “With discipline and determination, the sky is not the limit for joining the Indian Air Force.”

During the interactive session, IAF officers answered students’ questions on recruitment, training, service life, and career prospects. The team also organized a quiz competition on the Indian Air Force, and winners received prizes.

Among those present were Squadron Leader Rakesh, Junior Warrant Officer D. Bhadari, Sergeant Hitesh Kumar, Prof. Krishna Kumar, Chairman of the Department of Political Science, Dr. Chalamalla Venkateswarlu, Associate Professor, faculty members, and students.

Following the programme, the Indian Air Force’s Induction Publicity Exhibition Vehicle, stationed in front of the Arts College, attracted enthusiastic participation from students. The exhibition featured hands-on demonstrations of radar systems, communication equipment, aircraft systems, and defence technologies.

Students experienced a flight simulation activity inside the exhibition vehicle. Prof. C. Kaseem also occupied the aircraft simulator seat and experienced virtually operating an aircraft.

Dr. P. Swathi, Prof. V. Srilatha, faculty members, and students toured the exhibition vehicle and explored its interactive displays, which showcased the technological capabilities of the Indian Air Force and its recruitment initiatives.
