During the session, police reportedly told the student that marriage was not possible at present as she was a minor and advised her to continue her studies. Her parents also tried to persuade her.

The student reportedly became distressed during the counselling and attempted suicide. Police immediately intervened and shifted her to the hospital for treatment.

Police are examining legal action against the young man. Since the student is a minor and is reported to belong to the ST community, officials said provisions of the kidnapping and POCSO Acts could apply, depending on the findings of the investigation.

A detailed investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the incident and determine the applicable legal provisions.
