Hyderabad: Director H. Vinoth’s much awaited action drama Jana Nayagan, widely expected to be Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s final film as an actor, may finally hit theatres in July if pending censor issues are resolved. However, the makers have not yet announced an official release date.
The film was originally scheduled for a Pongal release in January 2026. However, the release was postponed after the Central Board of Film Certification referred the film to a Revising Committee under Rule 24 of the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules.
Jana Nayagan Awaits Final Censor Approval
Industry sources indicate that the certification process is nearing completion, prompting the makers to consider a July theatrical release. An official confirmation is still awaited.
Jana Nayagan has attracted significant attention as Vijay’s farewell film before his transition into full time politics. The actor, who now serves as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, had earlier announced his decision to step away from acting.
Directed by H. Vinoth, the film features an ensemble cast including Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj and Gautham Vasudev Menon.
Earlier this year, production house KVN Productions announced the postponement, citing circumstances beyond its control. The banner acknowledged the disappointment of fans and assured that a new release date would be announced after the certification process is completed.
The film has remained under review by the Censor Board since it was submitted for certification in December 2025. With reports suggesting the issue may soon be resolved, fans are now awaiting an official announcement on the theatrical release.
