Hyderabad: The city police have launched a new initiative titled Joint Fight Against Cybercrime to curb rising cyber offences. The programme brings social media influencers and content creators together with the police to spread awareness. Officials aim to reach people in a simple and direct manner. Therefore, the campaign focuses on clear and relatable messaging.
Under the ‘Jagruth Hyderabad Surakshit Hyderabad’ campaign, the police are using innovative methods to connect with the public. Social media influencers are collaborating with the Hyderabad City Police Instagram accounts. Their content is then shared with lakhs of people. As a result, awareness messages are reaching a wide digital audience quickly and effectively.
The videos created under this initiative are diverse. On one hand, they entertain viewers. On the other, they spread strong messages about cybercrime. A recent video based on the ‘Desi Mom vs. Scammer concept’ highlights lottery scams. It presents a situation where a caller claims, “You have won the lottery of Rs. 25 lakhs. Tell me the OTP for the processing fee..” The video shows how a housewife smartly repelled fake calls. Therefore, it serves as an eye opener for many viewers.
Meanwhile, another video exposes the secret of digital arrest fraud. It shows cyber criminals dressed in fake uniforms, pretending to be CBI, Police and RBI officials. They try to scare people through video calls. However, the video clearly advises citizens not to fear such fake calls. It also urges them to dial the toll free number 1930 or file a complaint on the cybercrime.gov.in portal.
This joint fight against cybercrime has received strong support from netizens. The experiment, conducted by police and influencers in a simple manner, has drawn appreciation online. Influencers and content creators should come forward to curb cybercrime. “Building a safe and vibrant society is the common responsibility of all of us,” said Hyderabad CP Sajjanar. Meanwhile, the police continue to push digital awareness through creative outreach.
