Jubilee Hills by-election: big leaders join the battle
- Congress, BRS, BJP deploy top brass for prestige fight
- Campaigns intensify as parties eye impact on GHMC polls
Hyderabad, Oct 24: The Jubilee Hills by-election has turned into a prestige contest for Congress, BRS, and BJP, with each party declaring that victory is essential and deploying senior leaders to secure it.
Parties believe the result will shape narratives for the upcoming GHMC and local body elections, so they have moved fast from nominations to full-fledged, division-wise action plans. The stakes are high as all three are treating Jubilee Hills as a strategic bellwether for urban influence.
With nominations closed and scrutiny completed, the campaign focus has sharpened. Each party has assigned responsibilities to top leaders, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, senior functionaries, and affiliated wings to cover booths and power centres.
Therefore, door-to-door outreach, targeted meetings, and constituency mapping are underway. Meanwhile, volunteers, youth cadres, and influencers have been aligned to amplify messaging across neighbourhoods and residential colonies.
For Congress, the bypoll is a test of governance and organization under the ruling regime. The party has fielded local youth leader Naveen Yadav and is working to flip a BRS-held seat to send a strong signal.
Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Tummala Nageswara Rao, and Vivek Venkataswamy were made in-charges two months ago to build sustained ground presence.
Also, various corporation chairmen have been tasked as division in-charges, while several MPs and MLAs are being slotted to campaign where they carry influence. Party sources indicate Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is likely to hold a roadshow, with the goal of converting governance messaging into votes.
BRS views Jubilee Hills as a springboard to regain urban momentum despite its Assembly loss last year. The party moved first with candidate Maganti Sunitha and has continued a consistent campaign. KCR’s name is on the star campaigners list, and leaders say he may attend one or two meetings to reinforce the push.
The organization has assigned division-wise responsibilities to senior leaders, mixed public meetings with door-to-door contact, and is banking on sentiment and sympathy in the constituency. The objective is clear: a Jubilee Hills win to strengthen the case for dominance in upcoming GHMC polls and to build a path back to power.
The BJP has again nominated Lanka Deepak Reddy, who finished third in the last election, citing consolidation among settlers, colonies, and specific communities if minority votes split between two other parties. The party is leaning on its competitive 48-division performance in the last GHMC outing as proof of urban traction.
Since Jubilee Hills falls within Union Minister Kishan Reddy’s parliamentary turf, he has led several reviews and is steering a granular campaign.
Seven MLAs have been assigned seven divisions, and senior leaders from multiple districts are handling booths and power centres. The party indicates that BJP-ruled chief ministers, including Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, are likely to campaign, signaling a high-decibel push.
All three parties are working to translate leadership presence into micro-level gains at polling stations. Therefore, ward-wise networks, apartment clusters, market corridors, and resident associations are central to outreach.
Meanwhile, each camp frames Jubilee Hills as a “win-at-all-costs” contest that will set the tone for GHMC and future state battles. Then, as the calendar tightens, the critical question remains how effectively each party can convert heavyweight visits, star roadshows, and division in-charges into booth-level turnout and persuasion.
