Disqualification Petitions in  Telangana Against Four MLAs Begins

Hyderabad, Oct 24 (Maxim News) : The Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar started conducting in-person hearings today on disqualification petitions against alleged turncoat MLAs under the Tenth Schedule.

Proceedings are being held in the Speaker’s chamber, with counsels for petitioners and respondents presenting arguments on party defection complaints.

The Speaker is following a structured day-long schedule and has already completed cross-examination of four MLAs earlier.

According to today’s cause list, the morning session begins at 11 am with Kalvakuntla Sanjay versus T. Prakash Goud. Later, at 12 noon, the Speaker will hear Chinta Prabhakar versus Kale Yadayya.

The post-lunch calendar resumes at 2 pm with Chinta Prabhakar versus Gudem Mahipal Reddy. Then, at 3 pm, the bench will take up Palla Rajeshwar Reddy versus Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy.

Each side’s advocates will record submissions and rebuttals as the Speaker examines the factual matrix and alleged grounds of defection.

The Speaker is conducting the proceedings under the anti-defection framework laid down in the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.

As part of this quasi-judicial process, both oral arguments and documentary material are being considered.

Cross-examination of four MLAs has already been completed earlier, marking a significant step toward final adjudication.

Today’s schedule indicates the matter is in an advanced stage, with sequential case-wise hearings to tie up remaining issues.

Inside the chamber, arguments opened with the disqualification petition against T. Prakash Goud. Both sides’ counsels are placing their versions on record, including any affidavits and supporting citations.

The Speaker is expected to assess whether the conduct alleged meets the statutory threshold for defection, including tests related to voluntary giving up of party membership or violation of the party whip, where applicable.

The legitimacy of claimed affiliations and public conduct will be key to the outcome.

BRS MLAs have reached the Assembly complex as hearings proceed, signalling the political stakes surrounding the petitions.

Meanwhile, with multiple cases scheduled back-to-back, stakeholders expect tighter timelines and potential orders following completion of arguments.
