Hyderabad, may 18: A major development has taken place in the Delhi liquor policy case pending before the Delhi High Court, with Justice Manoj Jain set to hear the matter from now on.
The hearing is scheduled to take place on Tuesday after Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma recused herself from the case following recent controversy surrounding the proceedings.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia are among the key accused in the case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.
Delhi liquor case hearing shifted
The development comes after a trial court recently granted relief to several accused, including Kejriwal and Sisodia, in cases filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation. Following that order, the CBI approached the Delhi High Court challenging the trial court’s decision.
Earlier, the matter was being heard by a bench headed by Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma. However, objections were raised by some accused regarding her hearing the case. Allegations were also circulated on social media against the judge, leading to controversy during the proceedings.
Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma had expressed concern over social media posts and videos related to court proceedings. Reports said the court viewed such actions as affecting the dignity of the judiciary.
Subsequently, Justice Sharma recused herself from the matter. The case will now come up before the bench headed by Justice Manoj Jain.
