Kaleshwaram: Heavy Flooding at Triveni Sangam; Godavari in Spate, Crops Submerged

Mahadevpur / Hyderabad, Aug 29:(Maxim News):  Continuous heavy rains have triggered severe flooding in the Godavari basin, causing water levels to rise dangerously at the Triveni Sangam in Kaleshwaram, where the Godavari and Pranahita rivers meet. The flood has already crossed the first warning level, and water is overflowing onto the steps of Gyan Saraswati and Pushkara Ghats.

Several villages near the Godavari catchment area are facing crop damage as water inundated farmlands in Mahadevpur mandal. Hundreds of acres of cotton fields were submerged after streams in Annaram, Chandrampalli, Nagepalli, Maddulapalli, Palugula, and Balijapur overflowed. Farmers, already hit by losses earlier, are now demanding government intervention and compensation for the damage.

Meanwhile, a massive flood surge is reaching the Medigadda Barrage of the Kaleshwaram project. The inflow stands at 9,71,880 cusecs, prompting authorities to lift 85 gates to release an equal volume downstream. (Maxim News)
