Kamareddy Hospital Negligence Death After Medicine Mix Up

Hyderabad, Jan. 21 (Maxim News) : A tragic case of medical negligence led to a patient’s death at a private hospital in Kamareddy district after medicines were allegedly exchanged between two patients with the same name.

The incident occurred when a 73 year old man, Nagabalaraju, from Anchanuru village in Domakonda mandal, visited the hospital for nerve related and thyroid treatment. At the same time, another patient with the same name was present for diabetes treatment.

According to the complaint, hospital staff called out the name, following which Nagabalaraju entered the doctor’s room. 

Doctors allegedly failed to verify age or medical history and prescribed high dose diabetes medication meant for the other patient.

Soon after consuming the medicines, his health deteriorated rapidly. His blood sugar levels reportedly dropped sharply, and he lost consciousness. Family members rushed him back to the same hospital, where staff allegedly admitted that the case sheet had been mixed up.

As his condition worsened, he was shifted to a government hospital. Despite treatment, Nagabalaraju died in the early hours of Tuesday.

Following a complaint from the family, Kamareddy town police registered a case against the private hospital doctor and two compounders.

Police said an investigation is underway into the Kamareddy hospital negligence death.

Local residents expressed anger, stating that the tragedy could have been avoided if basic patient verification protocols were followed. (Maxim News)
