Hyderabad, May 7 (Maxim News) : Telangana Rakshana Sena chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Thursday backed the ongoing Pharma City farmers protest and demanded that the government return acquired lands to farmers.

Speaking at a round table meeting at Basheerbagh Press Club, Kavitha opposed land acquisition under the proposed Future City project. She said Telangana Rakshana Sena would continue the agitation until justice is delivered to affected farmers.

Kavitha accused the government of hiding facts from the public. She claimed the Chief Minister recently admitted during a Cabinet meeting that the government may not be able to continue crop procurement in future years.

She described the issue as “insider information” and alleged that the matter was not widely reported. According to her, the government formed a committee of ministers instead of openly informing farmers about the situation.

Kavitha said farmers were suffering at procurement centres while paddy heaps remained unattended. She alleged that farmers were even dying near procurement yards due to distress.

She also criticised the government over fee reimbursement policies. She claimed authorities were taking decisions before people could organise protests against them.

Kavitha said people from different political backgrounds were now joining together on a common platform. However, she stated that Telangana Rakshana Sena would continue with its own policy of “questioning, fighting and resolving” public issues.

Referring to a recent protest in Velugumatla, Kavitha said her party continued its agitation until ministers intervened. She claimed nearly half of the affected families received assurances of justice only after sustained protests.

She alleged that both previous and present governments followed the same approach on Pharma City land acquisition. According to her, the earlier government claimed it acquired 13,500 acres for Pharma City, including assigned lands in Kandukur and Yacharam mandals.

Kavitha alleged that farmers opposed giving their patta lands but authorities attempted forced acquisition. She further claimed that officials continued proceedings despite court stay orders.

The Telangana Rakshana Sena chief also alleged that private companies started work in Ravirala Green Field despite legal restrictions. She said governments became “reckless” when public resistance weakened.

Kavitha questioned the government over its proposal to acquire 30,000 acres for Future City. She asked officials to explain how poor families would benefit from the project and how many jobs it would create.

She raised concerns over pollution from proposed data centres. According to her, the government had not released any environmental assessment on noise or pollution levels.

Kavitha also criticised compensation offered to farmers. She questioned how families could survive after losing agricultural land for compensation of around ₹8 lakh.

She alleged that the government promised to cancel GO 31 after coming to power. However, she claimed the Chief Minister later told the court that the Pharma City project would continue.

Kavitha further alleged discrimination in land acquisition. She claimed large landowners in Kurimetla were not affected while tribal families lost nearly 350 acres.

She said Telangana Rakshana Sena would support tribal communities and farmers fighting against land acquisition. She urged people to continue protests until the issue is resolved.

Kavitha also apologised for hardships faced by farmers and activists during the previous BRS government, saying she was part of that administration.

She criticised the government’s claims about a proposed bullet train under Future City. Kavitha said no bullet train project had become operational anywhere in the country so far.

She also warned that the Future City project could weaken the importance of core Hyderabad city. Kavitha said the government must first hold discussions with local residents before proceeding with land acquisition.

The Telangana Rakshana Sena chief said her party would remain at the forefront of the Pharma City farmers protest until affected families receive justice. (Maxim News)
