Hyderabad, April 25 (Maxim News): Telangana politics entered a new phase on Saturday after former MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha announced her new political party as Telangana Rashtra Sena (TRS), reviving an abbreviation closely linked to the political legacy of former Chief Minister KCR.

The announcement has sparked sharp debate over whether the new party name will receive approval from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Kavitha, who distanced herself from BRS after internal developments, formally unveiled the new platform and signalled an independent political course.
Kavitha TRS Party Name Creates Stir
Soon after the announcement, intense discussion began across Telangana political circles and social media platforms.
Many users questioned whether a party using the abbreviation TRS could be legally registered, as the same initials were earlier associated with the party founded by KCR before it was renamed as Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
Political observers noted that the Election Commission generally examines whether a proposed party name is identical or too similar to an existing or previously recognised political party.

If a name is likely to create confusion among voters, approval may face scrutiny under election norms.
The development has reportedly created concern among sections of BRS supporters.
They argue that use of the TRS abbreviation could politically benefit Kavitha by reviving public memory linked to the Telangana statehood movement.
Former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy’s son Karthik Reddy also commented on the issue through social media.
He stated that the ECI usually avoids approving names that resemble existing or previously used party identities if confusion may arise.

However, no official statement has yet been issued by the Election Commission regarding Kavitha’s proposed party registration.
Apart from the party name, attention has now shifted to the possible election symbol.
Political circles are discussing whether the new party could receive a symbol resembling the car, which is the recognised symbol of BRS.
In previous elections, symbols similar to major party marks had triggered debate over vote division in some constituencies.
Analysts say both the party name and future symbol could become politically significant if Kavitha expands her presence before upcoming elections.
For now, all eyes remain on the Election Commission’s next move and the response from BRS leadership. (Maxim News)
