KCR | Hyderabad, August 1: In response to the Supreme Court’s recent directive mandating that Assembly Speakers must decide on disqualification pleas of defecting MLAs within three months, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) has initiated steps to approach the Supreme Court against MLCs who defected to the Congress party.
KCR convened a high-level meeting with senior BRS leaders, including party working president K.T. Rama Rao, former ministers T. Harish Rao, Jagadish Reddy, and others, at his Erravalli farmhouse on Thursday.
The leaders reportedly held detailed discussions on the implications of the Supreme Court’s verdict and its potential impact on ongoing political developments in Telangana.
KCR Targets Defectors MLCs
Sources reveal that KCR has directed the party’s legal team to closely study the verdict. “Since the Supreme Court has categorically instructed the Speaker to act within three months, the Speaker must now take a decision,” KCR is said to have emphasized during the meeting. He reiterated that the BRS will continue to push for strict implementation of anti-defection laws and explore all legal avenues to challenge MLC defections.
Additionally, KCR firmly stated that the Godavari-Banakacharla project will not be allowed under any circumstances, asserting that the issue may also be taken to the Supreme Court if needed.
Criticizing the Congress-led state government, KCR said it had failed on all fronts. “BRS has succeeded in putting the government on the defensive on key issues,” he claimed, highlighting the party’s role in:
- Legally countering the defection of MLAs
- Stopping illegal acquisition of farmers’ lands in Lagacharla
- Preventing the alleged misuse of thousands of crores in the name of the Musi River project
- Forcing the return of a cheque taken from Adani by the state government
“These are victories for the people, and the people are watching everything. BRS will win the upcoming local body elections with public support,” KCR is reported to have stated.
