Konda Surekha | Hyderabad, August 22: Speculation is growing that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy may consider removing Konda Surekha from the Telangana Cabinet.
The discussion follows sharp criticism of Surekha after controversial remarks made by her daughter, Susmitha Patel. However, there is no official confirmation that the Chief Minister has decided to remove the minister.
The issue has now triggered an internal discussion within the Telangana Congress. Several legislators and party leaders have reportedly raised concerns over the controversy.
According to reports, 17 MLAs and two MLCs discussed the issue at the Congress Legislature Party meeting. They reportedly sought action against Surekha over the developments.
The leaders are also said to have urged the party leadership to address the issue firmly. However, the exact nature of any proposed action remains unclear.
Konda Surekha apology could ease tensions
Surekha has maintained that she has already given her explanation to the Pradesh Congress Committee disciplinary committee. She has also indicated that she would speak further after Revanth Reddy returns from his foreign tour.
The minister has not publicly announced any decision to apologise over her daughter’s remarks. Therefore, reports about a possible apology or Cabinet exit remain speculative.
Party sources, however, suggest that an apology could help settle the dispute. If the controversy continues, the leadership may consider other options, according to reports.
The timing of any action could also become important. Congress leaders may assess the political impact before taking a final decision.
Meanwhile, AICC Telangana in charge Meenakshi Natarajan is reportedly monitoring the developments. She is said to be gathering information about the remarks, Surekha’s response and the reaction from party legislators.
The Congress leadership is also expected to assess the possible political consequences of any action against the minister. A decision could follow discussions with the Chief Minister after his return.
The controversy has also revived wider questions about discipline within the ruling party. Congress leaders face the challenge of containing internal disagreements while maintaining government stability.
At present, there is no confirmed government announcement on Surekha’s removal. Any decision will depend on the Chief Minister and the Congress high command.
The issue is therefore likely to remain a key political development in Telangana until the party leadership reaches a clear decision.
